  • I've spent a lot of time over the last year getting to know myself, sitting with the pleasant and uncomfortable truths that come with that.   One of the ways I've done this is by taking myself on solo dates.   I stopped waiting for other people to be available to do the things I wanted to experience. So I started going to the cinema, taking nature walks, having picnics in the park, and booking theatre tickets just for me.  This year, I'm taking this one step further by taking myself on one solo date per month, and these are the things I've planned for the year.  As someone who struggled with social anxiety growing up, long before we had the language for it, I'm liberating myself from the things that used to scare me.  Becoming comfortable in my own company has shifted something in me. When you enjoy your own presence, you stop outsourcing your happiness. Even though this looks different for each of us, it often starts with creating space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters.  Sometimes that starts with figuring out what brings you joy - trying new things, giving yourself new experiences and paying attention to what feels good. And once you're clear on what makes your life more fulfilling, allowing yourself to lean into that. I've spent a lot of time over the last year getting to know myself, sitting with the pleasant and uncomfortable truths that come with that.   One of the ways I've done this is by taking myself on solo dates.   I stopped waiting for other people to be available to do the things I wanted to experience. So I started going to the cinema, taking nature walks, having picnics in the park, and booking theatre tickets just for me.  This year, I'm taking this one step further by taking myself on one solo date per month, and these are the things I've planned for the year.  As someone who struggled with social anxiety growing up, long before we had the language for it, I'm liberating myself from the things that used to scare me.  Becoming comfortable in my own company has shifted something in me. When you enjoy your own presence, you stop outsourcing your happiness.
